Derek Koenig brings a track record of team building, strategic acumen and award-winning creative firepower to his position as Chief Creative Officer at Discovery Communications. He leads the in-house creative department supporting all of Discovery’s global businesses with marketing, promotion, branded content, social, and virtual reality.

Previously, Derek founded Two Step consulting in Boulder, creating content, campaigns and SEO for clients including Qwest, Sony, Nike and Victors & Spoils. Also in Boulder, Derek served as CMO for Vail Resorts.

He also led marketing departments for Discovery, AOL, SONY, Morgan Stanley and served on the Agency side for Leo Burnett in Chicago… after beginning his career as a copywriter for Martiz Communications.

Derek and his teams have earned two Emmys, two Cannes Lions, two Webbys, three Effies, 50 PromaxBDA awards, one CTAM Gold Mark, three Adweek campaigns of the year, AAAA Gold for Strategy and the IHAF In House Agency of the Year.
