Ex-Head of YouTube Spaces EMEA at Google and CEO of Poplar

David Ripert is Founder and CEO of the Augmented Reality startup POPLAR, based at the tech accelerator 'Founders Factory' in London, backed by corporate partners including L'Oréal, the Guardian and easyJet. POPLAR is a platform that allows global brands to post briefs that are responded to by a community of AR creators - helping brands create immersive and interesting content for their audiences at scale.

For the past 6 years, Ripert oversaw the EMEA arm of Google’s global YouTube division dedicated to working with existing partners and creators, identifying new and rising talent, driving ecosystem innovation and building creator spaces for them to collaborate, learn and grow. The online video giant has launched a string of initiatives over the years to further improve the quality of its output, investing in original content, next-generation producers and state-of-the-art production facilities to support skills development. Ripert oversaw many of these activities across the EMEA region, including the recent opening of a new 20.000 sq ft YouTube Space next to London’s Kings Cross St Pancras railway station – the company’s largest such facility in Europe, kitted out with 4K and virtual reality cameras.

He was previously VP of content at Dailymotion in New York and Paris, after some years at Netflix in Los Angeles, where he managed original content. He began his career with IM Global Films in Los Angeles, in the production financing and distribution of feature films.

David is Co-Chair of Save the Children UK’s Digital Advisory Board, in his capacity as Trustee of the Board. He is also a Trustee of Sadler’s Wells in London, a world leader in contemporary dance.
